A Day in the Life of a Fantasy Author

Writing fantasy isn't just about weaving tales of magic and adventure—it's about living in a world where imagination reigns supreme. As a fantasy author, my days are filled with creativity, discipline, and, of course, a touch of chaos.
Morning: The Creative Spark
My day starts with coffee (lots of it) and a journal. Before diving into writing, I take time to jot down thoughts, dream fragments, or random ideas that might eventually shape into something magical. Some mornings, inspiration flows effortlessly. Other days, I stare at a blank page wondering if my muse has taken an extended vacation.
Once I've warmed up, I dive into brainstorming. Whether it's plotting the next twist in my latest novel or fleshing out a character’s backstory, mornings are for creative exploration. I might spend an hour researching mythology, world-building, or simply scribbling notes about how a new spell system should work.
Afternoon: Writing & Wizardry
By midday, it's time to get serious. Writing is both art and discipline, and I treat it like a job—because it is one! I set a word count goal (anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 words) and challenge myself to stay focused.
Some days, the writing flows like an enchanted river. Other times, I wrestle with every sentence. But no matter the difficulty, I remind myself that progress is progress. Fantasy novels don’t write themselves (unless a mischievous elf is secretly helping me).
And when I need a break from writing, what better way to recharge than diving into a world of magic in Wizard101? Playing with friends is my way of unwinding while still staying immersed in fantasy. Whether battling creatures, leveling up my wizard, or exploring new realms, it's the perfect escape before getting back to my own storytelling.
Evening: Editing & Reflection
As the sun sets, I shift gears to editing. Writing the first draft is about unleashing creativity, but editing refines the magic. I scrutinize plot holes, adjust pacing, and rewrite clunky dialogue. It’s like sculpting—carving away unnecessary parts to reveal a polished masterpiece beneath.
Beyond editing, I also connect with readers. Whether it's engaging on social media, answering fan questions, or sharing sneak peeks of upcoming stories, I cherish the interaction. Fantasy fiction thrives on community, and I love hearing how my worlds and characters resonate with others.
Night: Dreaming Up New Adventures
Before bed, I relax with a book (usually fantasy, of course) OR I play Wizard 101. Reading keeps my creativity sharp and offers endless inspiration. As to playing wizard 101 keeps me up to date on a lot of important people who I adore that love my books. Then, as I drift off to sleep, my mind is already spinning new ideas—because even when the writing stops, the stories never do.
